With only two seasons, you can go to Hawaii during summer or winter but still enjoy much warmer weather at any time of year than compared to the mainland U.S. Water at the beach is at a comfortable and consistent temperature throughout the year which is why Hawaii is the ultimate beach destination year round. Although the months of November to March are the wettest of the year on this island chain, you can be sure that you can still enjoy the beach even during these times. Clothing worn in Hawaii should be light and comfortable. Bring a rain jacket if you don’t want to be caught in the rain.

Visa, Immigration, Customs

If you are coming from any other part of the United States, you don’t need a passport and visa to enter Hawaii. Anyone flying or sailing in from international destinations, and who is a non-US citizen, would need a passport and U.S. visa to enter Hawaiian territory. Customs regulations in Hawaii is generally the same as other US ports of entry, however, Hawaii has special requirements for those bringing in pets and plants. Pets entering the state of Hawaii are subject to a quarantine time of 120 days in accordance to their state laws. Special requirements are also required when bringing plants into the islands.

Transportation

There are several ways that one can go around Hawaii when they visit. There is the extensive bus system that offers good deals in transfers for tourists and locals alike. The bus system is ideal for those who are sticking to a budget. Other ways are by limousine, shuttle service, or rental car.

Culture & Food

The culture of Hawaii presents a very friendly and warm people who welcome tourists and outsiders with open arms. With a great respect for nature and beauty, much of Hawaiian culture revolves around such themes. Hawaiian and English are two of the most spoken languages on any of the islands. Hawaiians take great pride in their traditional practices of wearing the lei and they love to share the beauty of tradition by openly performing their cultural dances and practices that have lasted for many generations.

The food in Hawaii consists mainly of seafood, fruits, vegetables and a mixture of different meats and dishes. The best place one would be able to enjoy the variety of dishes that they serve on the island is at a luau, or a traditional Hawaiian feast, which is available at different parts of the islands or at major resorts and hotels.

Attractions

There are many things to do in Hawaii, whether you are a guest or a local. The shopping is great within the city and at the local stores that offer great native products. The beaches of Hawaii are the best attraction for tourists who can choose to spend the whole day at places like Waikiki beach to learn how to surf or get a fabulous tan. Another popular place to go, where you can experience true Hawaiian traditions, is the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu. If you love history, then visit the USS Arizona Memorial at the famous Pearl Harbor.

If you are ever on Hawaii’s Big Island, you can be adventurous and take a guided tour at Kilauea with their Big Island volcano tours. Take a scenic hike in the park and you may even be lucky enough to experience an actual lava flow! On Kauai Island you can take a tour at the Grand Canyon of the Pacific at the 3,000 foot deep Waimea Canyon. No matter what Hawaiian island you are on, you are sure to find a unique experience that will hold you in awe.
